Mouse beta-klotho (β-Klotho) is a single-pass transmembrane protein that belongs to the klotho family. It is encoded by the Klb gene and is expressed in various tissues, including the liver, kidney, and brain. β-Klotho functions as a co-receptor for fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling, specifically for FGF19 and FGF21, which are crucial for metabolic regulation. Beta-klotho is a multifunctional protein that plays a critical role in metabolism, anti-aging processes, tumor suppression, and neuroprotection by modulating FGF signaling pathways.
